Our Hawaiian Superfoods Story
About The Founders
Puna and Ola Tripp founded Hā Tonics in 2015 as Liquid Life Hawai‘i with the mission of bringing holistic health to communities across Big Island. Today, they aim to make the power of superfoods accessible across the globe while sharing a Native Hawaiian perspective on wellness.
“To help the lāhui, we create products that are not just going to be the best for the health of our bodies, but also the best for the health of our communities and our economy.” - Ola Tripp
Puna Tripp: Co-Founder, Functional Nutritionist & Product Formulator
Born and raised in Hilo, Hawaiʻi, Puna Tripp grew up drinking cold-pressed juice and surrounded by a family tradition of natural healing. Her grandmother was a curandera, giving Puna an early connection to plant-based and traditional healing practices that would later help shape her path as the co-founder, functional nutritionist, and product formulator behind Hā Tonics.
Puna has studied Ayurvedic medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, lāʻau lapaʻau, and other holistic healing methodologies. Her journey as a formulator began with Hā Tonic's roots in cold-pressed juice and healing teas which has evolved into a deeper focus on functional nutrition and the gut microbiome.
Today, Puna leads product formulation, thoughtfully bringing together traditional plant knowledge, modern nutritional science and functional ingredients. She shares a deep passion for developing endemic and locally grown Hawaiian crops, with a vision of creating products that support everyday wellness while strengthening Hawaiʻi’s agricultural future and sustainability.
Ola Tripp: Co-Founder
Born in Hilo and raised in Volcano, Hawaiʻi, Ola Tripp is the co-founder of Hā Tonics, helping lead the vision, brand, and growth of the company. His connection to plant-based wellness is deeply personal: his great-grandmother was a kumu lāʻau lapaʻau, creating a generational connection to traditional Hawaiian healing practices and the use of plants as medicine.
Ola and Puna’s journey with Hā Tonics began as a cold-pressed juice company, inspired by The Gerson Therapy and the pioneering work of Norman Walker and the Norwalk juicer. With a background in film, storytelling, branding, and entrepreneurship, and mentorship from their uncle and aunty, Dr. Greg and Dr. Maile Pouls, Ola has helped guide Hā’s evolution from fresh juice into functional nutrition and gut microbiome-focused products.
Today, his vision is to grow Hā Tonics far beyond Hawaiʻi while remaining deeply rooted. At the heart of that vision is building a homegrown company that creates new opportunities for Hawaiʻi’s economy, including developing GMP-certified manufacturing infrastructure that can support local farmers and help bring more Hawaiʻi-grown products to market.
